"Sustainable events" is a key trend in the event sector. For the darmstadtium, it is more than just a trend. The congress centre is a showcase for sustainability, conservation of resources and intelligent use of energy and therefore predestined as a future-oriented venue for climate-friendly meetings. Sustainability is the strategic orientation and also the basis for the daily operation of the darmstadtium. As first congress centre in Germany the darmstadtium recently has received the silver certificate by the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council). Due to its use of geothermal and solar energy as well as biomass and green electricity generated from renewable sources, the darmstadtium has an extremely small carbon footprint and is consequently the perfect venue for green meetings.
Internal corporate guidelines for purchasing goods and services prefer products which meet environmental and sustainability aspects. As a result, the congress centre has been awarded with the first place within the category "company with up to 500 employees" during the competition "Office and Environment 2014". The focus of the competition, organized by the German Environmental Management Association (B.A.U.M. e.V.), is the careful use of resources concerning the daily work at the office.
Moreover, staff and partners in the areas of catering and cleaning services have been provided further training to become sustainability consultants.

Climate neutral events

The darmstadtium accepts its responsibilities and offsets all stationary CO2 emissions at the darmstadtium in cooperation with the local climate partner ENTEGA.

Moreover, the darmstadtium enables congress participants, in cooperation with Germany’s national rail company Deutsche Bahn and the local public transport, to travel to and from the venue without causing CO2 emissions. For electric cars, charging point are available (green electricity) in proximate vicinity. E-bikes are available for rent. The "call a bike" station completes the perfect match of outstanding mobility offers.
